Within a Norwegian funded project Kazakhstan is taking steps to further reduce its prison population.

With Norwegian support the World Wildlife Fund has succeeded in establishing a protected nature area covering half the size of Luxembourg. The new protected nature park will be the home of the threatened Bukhara deer and Argali sheep.

On 26th of February Ambassador Ole Johan Bjørnøy attended a seminar on Monitoring of Children's Rights in Institutions in Astana.The seminar was part of the three- year Norwegian-funded project of strengthening the Ombudsman's child protection system in Kazakhstan.

The report has been written by the Small Arms Survey at the Geneva Institute of International and Development Studies, and was financed by the Norwegian Government.
